Recent studies show pollution, destruction of natural environments and global warming are taking their toll on our planet. Governments all over the world are making an effort to protect our fragile environment before it is too late. But are we doing enough?

It is true that current awareness of the risks associated to pollution is helping governments pass environmental laws, and we have witnessed faster progress in the last ten years than in the previous fifty. Recycling, a more responsible use of toxic products and traffic restrictions are all signs that people are more deeply concerned about the environment than ever before. Individual action is on the rise, and this can only benefit the planet’s wellbeing.

But this is simply not enough. Individual responsibility is always positive, but people cannot change the world on their own. I believe it is those with the power to cause real change who should be behaving differently. From electrical companies to local governments, from water treatment plants to tourist resorts, everybody should be pushing in the same direction to guarantee the environment is taken care of. Increasing benefits can no longer be an excuse for practices that endanger the only place in which we can thrive.

Over all, even though individual responsibility is positive, I think this matter requires global action. Our society needs to change in significant ways if we want to ensure survival and wellbeing for the following generations. Political action is more important than ever, and we can no longer afford to ignore these issues.

Good luck!
